I’m now a MCA MASTER 500 (class 5) that includes the qualification of CHIEF MATE 3000.
To get these tickets I’ve had to start from the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore, then upgrade to Yachtmaster Ocean.
I’ve then took the required courses and sit the exam for the MCA MASTER 200.
After the M200 I decided to broaden my knowledge and progress to the OFFICER OF WATCH 3000 which had required training and courses about ship construction, radar and navigation, crew management, stability, and ECDIS.
Although the OOW3000 (and the MASTER 200) would allow me to work on Red Ensign and Italian yachts of the size that I like and feel confident about, I wanted to take on the challenge of the Master 500 along with the more in depth courses about stability, nav&radar, crew management, medical aid, business and law, celestial, seamanship and meteorology.
