I’ve obtain the AEC (MCA Approved Engine Course ) early in my career as I’ve been told that a skipper must be able to fix everything on board.
That was particularly true when I’ve sailed around the world…You can’t find assistance in the middle of the ocean or in remote locations, so I’ve expanded my skills in marine diesel engine, electrical system, electronic nav instrument (use and installation) and general knowledge of all the others on-board systems
As a captain I’ve been responsible for the navigation, the maintenance and the administration.
I’ve managed 2 refits in shipyard.
I’ve done some charter in the Med and in the Caribbean
Sometimes I had to cook as well.
